Fluffy Southern Biscuits Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cut into small cubes
- 3/4 cup cold milk or buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Add the cold butter and use a fork or pastry cutter to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually pour in the cold milk and mix until a soft dough forms. Be careful not to overmix.
- Lightly flour a surface and roll out the dough to about 3/4 inch thick. Cut into squares or use a round biscuit cutter.
- Place the biscuits on a greased baking sheet, leaving a little space between each.
- Brush the tops with melted butter for a golden finish.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let them cool slightly before serving.
