Fluffy Southern Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cut into small cubes
  • 3/4 cup cold milk or buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  3. Add the cold butter and use a fork or pastry cutter to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Gradually pour in the cold milk and mix until a soft dough forms. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Lightly flour a surface and roll out the dough to about 3/4 inch thick. Cut into squares or use a round biscuit cutter.
  6. Place the biscuits on a greased baking sheet, leaving a little space between each.
  7. Brush the tops with melted butter for a golden finish.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Let them cool slightly before serving.

Tip: Serve warm with butter, honey, or jam. Perfect for breakfast or dinner!
