Orange Velvet Cake
A bright and citrusy twist on a classic velvet cake — ultra-moist with a creamy orange-kissed frosting!
Ingredients:
For the Cake:
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk
½ cup vegetable oil
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
3 large eggs
2 tbsp orange zest
½ cup orange juice
1 tsp vanilla extract
Orange food coloring (optional)
For the Frosting:
8 oz cream cheese, softened
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar
2 tbsp orange juice
1 tsp orange zest
1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch cake pans.
In a bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt.
In a large bowl, beat butter, oil, and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla, orange zest, and orange juice.
Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk, mixing until just combined. Add food coloring if using.
Divide batter between pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
For the frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, orange juice, zest, and vanilla. Mix until fluffy.
Frost cooled cakes, stack, and decorate as desired!
